Reading the vig

A fair two-sided market has implied probabilities summing to 100%. Books bake in extra — the "overround" — so the two sides sum to >100%. The vig is that extra slice. A −110/−110 spread carries 4.5% vig; a sharp Pinnacle market is often 2.0–2.5%; a soft offshore book might charge 6%+ on player props. To break even at −110 you need to win 52.4% — and that 2.4 points above 50/50 is exactly the vig.
